Global Disinformation Index

The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to disrupting the business model of online disinformation.

Starting from the insight that much of disinformation is driven by advertising revenue, GDI works to “defund disinfo” by meticulously mapping disinformation risks across the open web. Using a mix of expert human reviewers and artificial intelligence, it produces independent risk ratings for news and information sites worldwide.

These ratings help brands, agencies and ad-tech companies avoid unintentionally funding outlets that spread harmful or misleading narratives and instead support quality journalism. GDI focuses on content that is deliberately deceptive, financially or geopolitically motivated and likely to fuel social conflict or harm at-risk groups and democratic institutions.

As a non-profit that reinvests any surplus into its mission, GDI aims to give advertisers lasting transparency and tools to shrink the financial incentives that keep disinformation ecosystems alive, strengthening trust in media and democratic debate everywhere.
